Health Equity
The Health Equity team at YWCA San Antonio works to eliminate health disparities across our communities.
Everyone deserves access to the health services they need to live happy, healthy lives, no matter who they are, where they come from, what language they speak, or where they live.
Services include:
Breast and cervical cancer screening, including mammography
Vaccines for children and adults
Mobile medical units providing primary care and other services
Senior fitness classes
Maternal health clubs for preconception, perinatal, and postpartum women
We also support building the health workforce through several efforts
Community Health Worker (CHW) education and training
Partnerships with Ready to Work to launch people into health careers
Hosting internships, practicums, and volunteers
Advocacy with policymakers to support funding for CHWs

We empower Community Health Workers (CHWs) and doulas with vital knowledge. We offer accessible, bilingual online training in English and Spanish designed to support their professional growth and community impact.
YWCA San Antonio is not training new CHWs at this time, but we do offer continuing education credits.

We provide health education to women throughout their maternal health journey.
Maternal health clubs are designed to increase health literacy, offer guidance and support during pregnancy and postpartum, foster a sense of community, and connect participants to resources.

Ventanilla de Salud (VDS), the Window to Health, is a service provided through the Mexican Consulate. Through this service, we provide health education and service referrals to the San Antonio and South Central Texas immigrant community.
VDS improves access to primary and preventive health services, increases coverage in public insurance, and promotes a culture of health prevention for the entire community. In addition, VDS can provide information on educational, legal, and financial guidance.
